Colossians 3:1
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
In chapter 3 Paul shifts from informing us to instructing us, which is his usual method. God’s divine design seems to be belief, then behavior. Chapters 1 and 2 inform us of who Christ is, Who He is not and now we come to the portion of the letter that tells us how we should live in the light of everything he has shown us.
I went through this book in my study Bible and underline every time the word all, and words related to all, were used and I encourage you to do the same. I noticed that the first 2 chapters inform us that Christ is all, and gave all. In Chapter 3 he instructs us to give all to Christ, we received all of Him, so he should receive all of us. Chapter 2 concluded with a question, If ye be dead with Christ why are we subject to the old man’s doctrines and commandments? Chapter 3 opens with a statement, If ye be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
In our last few devotions, we have seen the lunacy of propping up the old man and serving him, puffing up our fleshly minds. Now, we have instruction, instead of ministering to the old dead man we should minister to the new nature, we should “seek those things which are above! I am reminded of the words of wise Solomon from Ecclesiastes, everything under the sun Is “Vanity and vexation of spirit.” Solomon wrote an entire book on the foolishness of investing in this world, everything under the sun will perish. The good news is we have something to live for, eternity. We have a life, a world, and an inheritance not under the sun but in eternity and it is certainly worth investing in and living for. Christ said in Matthew 6:19-21 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Dear friends, if you are saved then you are risen with Christ and why would we continue to live for this fleeting world when we have a forever world we can invest in? Wherever your treasures are is where your heart will be. I believe this is why we have so many carnal Christians and churches, we invest heavily in this world and our hearts are exactly where we have invested. Dear reader invest in the life to come! He who loses his life for my sake shall find it! Heaven is where Christ is, our all [Jesus] is in heaven but is our heart in heaven, is our money invested in eternity, are our lives invested in eternity? Where is your heart today? If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
